PSG could scupper Arsenal's Lacazette chase as French giants express interest

PAUL MCNAMARA: Arsenal's chase of Alexandre Lacazette could be knocked off course by French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic left the Parc des Princes for Manchester United this summer, leaving PSG searching for a goalscorer capable of filling the Swede's prolific boots.

According to respected French sports daily L'Equipe that man could be Lacazette, who has scored at a rate of better than a goal every other game in Ligue 1 since making his debut in 2010.

JAMES DUTTON: As Manchester United get ready to smash the world transfer record for Paul Pogba, the French star is set to become the first £100m footballer in the history of the game.

The move comes 41 years after a rather unheralded Italian became the first £1m player in the game, and breaks Real Madrid's monopoly over owning the most expensive footballer five times since 2000.

Arsenal keen on £40m-rated Lacazette... but is he an improvement on Giroud?

AMITAI WINEHOUSE: Top level strikers have been absent from Arsenal's line-ups since the heyday of Thierry Henry, with only a brief pause to allow Robin van Persie to develop before he was shipped off to Manchester United.

Arsene Wenger finally seems set on changing that. He moved swiftly for Jamie Vardy earlier this summer, only to see him remain at the King Power. Wenger has now tabled a bid for Alexandre Lacazette, and although Lyon rejected the offer there have been suggestions that Arsenal will improve it to £40million.

Sportsmail has taken a look at the 25-year-old and analysed whether he would be the signing that Arsenal would need ahead of the new Premier League season.

RORY O'CALLAGHAN: West Ham are set to confirm the loan signing of Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri from Deportivo Maldonado as Slaven Bilic looks to build a squad capable of fighting on four fronts this season.

The 22-year-old, who made his name at Boca Juniors, spent the majority of the last campaign on loan at Brazilian club Sao Paulo - scoring 16 goals in 31 appearances.

Calleri, who was reportedly a January transfer target of Chelsea last season, is regarded as one of the most talented young strikers in South America.

Birmingham want to end Ricky van Wolfswinkel's Norwich nightmare.

The Blues have held talks with the Canaries over a season-long loan for their record signing.

Boss Gary Rowett believes he can revive the Dutchman's career after it came to a grinding halt following his £8.5million move to Carrow Road from Sporting Lisbon in 2013.

Van Wolfswinkel has no future under Norwich manager Alex Neil and the Canaries would welcome the chance to move him on as he enters the final year of his contract.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has admitted he's found it difficult to bring in players this summer.

Dyche and Burnley are returning to the Premier League in the season ahead.

'We know who the players are, it's doing the deals, that's for the chairman to get on and do," Dyche told the Lancashire Telegraph.

'The market is challenging, I'm a broken record but it’s the truth, it's not just us, when you see the numbers flying around it is a big challenge.

'There are quite strict guidelines here as to what the board and the club want to do financially and it's very tough.

'I made it clear last time we were here, I made it clear this time and I made it clear in the Championship, it's a club that has to be run properly and that's how the board want it and it makes it very challenging, it's as simple as that.'

Could Mirando follow Pogba to United?

Manchester United will consider reviving interest in wily defender Joao Miranda should they lose Marcos Rojo or Daley Blind over the next month.

Jose Mourinho has signed £30million Eric Bailly from Villarreal but would still like some more experience added to a relatively young defence.

United have several options but Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair will be allowed to go out on loan and Mourinho is open to allowing Rojo and Blind to follow suit and may accept permanent deals.

Wenger wants one more striker

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed he wants to sign one more striker before the start of the new Premier League season.

'At the moment I have not too many attacking options in terms of experienced players,' Wenger said after Arsenal's 2-1 win over the MLS All-Stars.

'But let's not forget we still have a few players at home.

'There are also a few players who did not play [against the MLS All-Star team], like [Santi] Cazorla and of course [Mesut] Ozil and [Aaron] Ramsey are at home. [Olivier] Giroud is also not here.

'So we have options but we will still look outside to find one more.'

Madrid interested in Toon ace

SIMON JONES: Newcastle United have yet to receive an official offer from Real Madrid for Moussa Sissoko but there is genuine interest in the France midfielder who finds himself on the shortlist of several top clubs.

Juventus have also considered the 26-year-old in the event of Paul Pogba's departure though he is not top of their list.

Sissoko had an impressive Euro 2016 but the clubs have been deterred after looking deeper into his performance statistics and aligning those with Newcastle's £30m valuation.

The deal for the 23-year-old France midfielder is expected to be formalised on Friday after Pogba's agent Mino Raiola held further talks with Juventus officials and lawyers in Turin on Thursday afternoon.
