Praying and believing for rain
Whatever you ask in my name,
this I will do, that the Father
may be glorified in the Son. –
John 14:13 ESV
Praying for Rain
The other day a missionary friend of mine
put a prayer request on social media. He is
serving in Nicaragua, where he spends
most of his time, and he asked that we
pray for rain. He has been serving in a
severely impoverished area that has had
hard time getting their hands on clean
water. It had been over three months since
they had seen their last rain, so my friend
called on the body (us as the church) to
intercede on behalf of the people he is
serving.
It was the last few words of the post that
got my attention.
It clearly displayed my friends' faith in not
only the power of prayer, but in God's
power to answer. He asked that we pray,
and start carrying our umbrellas. It was a
call to have faith in our prayers.
I am happy to report, after over three
months of no rain, my friend reported just
a few days later that they had a soaking
rain overnight.
You see, we read John 14:13 and start
making a wish list for God. We leave out
the surrounding scripture. We leave out the
parts that tell us that God will meet our
NEEDS as we are doing his will and in order
to accomplish his will.
If your faith is shaken because of
unanswered prayer, maybe it is time we
stop praying according to our own desires
and starting praying according to his will.
Maybe it's time to stop praying for a new
car and start praying for rain.
