Nigeria and man city striker ihenacho dedicate success to late mum

Kelechi Iheanacho has dedicated his meteoric rise to the pinnacle of football to the grieve which followed the death of his mother in February 2013, the year Manchester City signed him after his heroics for Nigeria at the Under-17 World Cup.

The 19-year-old Nigerian striker, who just earned his first call-up to the Super Eagles by coach Sunday Oliseh, scored and set up two goals in his first full debut for City against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night in the Capital One Cup.

My father (James) was a trader and my mum was a teacher, but she was laid to rest a few years ago which was really hard for all of us, Iheanacho said.

I have two brothers and a sister back in Nigeria as well. Everything I do, I do for my mum and my family thats what drives me.

My dad is back home and Im living on my own in Manchester at the moment.

But I think a lot of kids back home have been encouraged by whats happened to me and by where I am today.

They cant believe what Ive achieved at 19 and it gives them belief that they can make it too.
